Machinima, for those unaware (a group that included myself until a few moments ago) is the process of using a video game engine to produce cinematic visuals. Somehow this apparently red-hot trend has managed to completely elude me until my on-a-whim purchase of Terminator Salvation The Machinima Series on DVD; it was recommended at the time of purchase of the Terminator Salvation DVD so I figured what the hey...

Broken down into six individual episodes, Salvation the Machinima spans a single DVD packaged within a standard clamshell case and comes in at a runtime of 74 minutes. Extras include a Making Of featurette and a profile segment on lead character Blair Williams.

Though unrated, the picture consists of standard-fair science fiction action, violence and occasional blood splatter (all animated of course).

Seriously?
I just paid $3 for a 12 minute advertisement for a video game. Lame. I would have liked to know it was only 12 minutes. Video quality was OK, I could tell it was a game engine pretty early one when the characters where running. Story line was interesting and it might have been worth it for even a 30 minute episode. I would have preferred an hour. You can normally download 90-120 movies for $3, so I feel a bit ripped off.

Pre movie movie
Terminator Salvation - The Machinima Series... taking place about 2 years before the movie. I enjoyed the premise of following the missions of Blair Williams, encountering several Terminators and one `survivor'... determining whether he is
friend or foe. It's mainly cut scenes from the game put together and modified....
divided into 6 episodes. A full CGI movie would have been better. Still, seeing Moon Bloodgood is worth the whole DVD.

What I Hoped Saturday Morning Cartoons Would Be As I Approached My Forties . . .
As I find it only fair to the creators to review their work rather than how it's distributed, this is a review of the episodes themselves, not the marketing strategies behind their release. I'll talk more about marketing at reviews end, though, just to give the devil his duee. I have to go ahead and be honest: I love these episodes, but in the context of what I've seen before. Had I never seen Batman: The Animated Series, I'm not sure I'd be so happy with this series. Batman is nearly stoic in this series, always contemplative, often narrating through interior dialog, you know, we hear Batman talking inside his own head. The characters he is teamed with in volume two are, with the exception of one (Kamandi) quite manic and/or full of bravado bordering on manic (B'wana Beast, Green Arrow, Speedy, Guy Gardner); and one other (Deadman) is manic depressive. BRAINY BABY - Baby IQ: Baby's First Words

Instantly Captivated
My 3 month old was introduced to this video for the first time earlier this week and it was an instant hit. I recently returned to work and my MIL who keeps my baby suggested we give him something to look at during the day when he started to get fussy and couldn't be talked/bounced/walked out of it. We didn't want to just turn on the regular TV, plus it's kinda high-up and we're not sure how far across the room he can clearly see at this age. I'd picked this DVD up while I was pregnant and totally forgot about it. Just so happened I stumbled across it the day after she suggested giving him some visual stimulation. We popped it in the laptop and my little one was instantly captivated by the music, vivid and colorful child-friendly images, and the action/animation. When he's fussy he's not always easily distracted/soothed so for this DVD to capture and quiet him so instantaneously was amazing. Honestly we enjoyed looking at it as much as he did. I could have made this
Both the Briany Baby IQ DVD's are not good. My baby loves Right Brain and Left Brain, so I ordered both of the IQ DVD's, hoping those would be a hit too. She won't even sit through 5 minutes of them. Not what I expected, I expected better. I wouldn't suggest buying. Even my older step daughters think they are freaky and will give her nightmares with the little puppets they use. It is really odd.

Probably my fault but I didn't realize that this video was just music! Not good for my one year old! I wish I would have returned it! :(

Larry the Cable Guy's Hula-Palooza Christmas Luau

I love Larry, but this wasn't his funniest. If your a Larry fan, it's worth seeing, but I know Larry and have seen better!!!!!

What a wonder day in Hawaii
This was Larry the Cable Guy's family Christmas in Hawaii....what a laugh full event! Tony Olando was the best, the skits were fun for all...can't wait until the next year of Christmas with Larry!

Hula Fun
I only bought this DVD because my husband was one of the "Pirate Elfs" in the special and I wanted to surprise him with a copy. He was also the little guy who leaves the airport terminal as Larry enters, is the little guy who walks by in the street corner santa scene and is "Kris Kringle's" manager in the wrestling match between Santa (Larry) and Kris Kringle. Most of the special is great. I love Tony Orlando, the songs are fun. The only thing I didn't like was the "Letters to Santa" bit. I guess redneck sexist bits aren't my thing. I was offended when Larry had the buxom blonde in the short santa outfit bend over him to retrieve the letters and then he made a point of covering his lap because of his "reaction" to it. Redneck humor? Got it. Old favorites? Got it. Women half naked doing a "hula" while short guys ogle them? Got it. If my husband hadn't been in the special I wouldn't have "got it".

The Smurfs Season 2, Vol. 3: World of Wonders

We Want Season Sets
Smurfs cartoons remain a favorite for those people that grew up watching them as kids. We got the full treatment with Season One Vol 1 and 2 but now it seems like miscellaneous episodes in no particular orders are being put out a few at a time. Which WB associate made that irrational decision is an outrage. So the 1 star vote is for the DVD. We want season sets!

As I have said in a previous Smurf DVD review, at least they included episodes with Gargamel. I am still disappointed with the limited episodes-5, and the fact that these releases are not in chronological order. What happened to the episode where Baby Smurf arrived via stork? I wish Warner Bros would stop playing and release another Volume of numerous episodes in the order that they originally aired.

$15 for 5 episodes????
I agree with everyone else that believes these sets are overpriced. $15 for 5 episodes is just crazy. Don't any of the corporate folks read any of these reviews. If they don't, they should, because the might actually learn something they can't read in an academic journal.

Episode 7160

Just love it
While in the UK for 27 years, which is as long as this program has been on the UK TV, I always had the opportunity to watch it. I have alwayss loved this program due to the nature of it. It is close to being exactly the way life is around some parts of England. When I came to the US. I did not think for one moment I would ever have a way to see Coronation Street again. I was thrilled when Amazon offered it. I just absolutely love it. The actors who portray the people of Coronation Street, the actual story line and really eveything. It would not be everyones cup of tea but for me it really is.

Cabin Fever

WE NEED A PRODUCT DESCRIPTION HERE BADLY!
I am really disappointed in this dvd. I haven't even opened it. There should be a synopsis where it's letting the customer know that it's merely 8 episodes from the first series (which I already have!) ... not a second series as most imagine it is. If there is any way to include the synopsis of this in the listing, I'm sure many would appreciate it. As I live in the UK, I spent over $12 just for the shipping (cost of dvd is fair! Shipping is not!), so there's my $16.00+ down the drain. I'll try to sell it on Ebay ... might as well try to recoup some of the damages!

Not what I expected....
I purchased this item thinking it was an extension of the first volume but it's just 8 of the "best" episodes from the first dvd. The description was kind've misleading but it's still a good dvd for people who DON'T have the first one.

Pleasantly Surprised!
I had never heard of the Ghost Stories series. I basically just ran across it by accident. I must admit, I kind of like it. Some of the episodes are a better than others of course. But, I would definitely recommend it to others.
